Toks Omishakin, California’s 4th Secretary of Transportation since February 2022, oversees the California State Transportation Agency (CALSTA). CALSTA manages 8 State Departments, Boards, and Commissions with 42,000+ staff and a $30+ billion budget. His core priorities are Safety, Equity, Climate Action, and Economic Prosperity in transportation.
Previously, as Caltrans Director, he managed a $17.5 billion budget and 22,000+ employees responsible for 50,000 lane miles of highways, 20,000 bridges, 250 airports, 3 Amtrak rail services, and 400+ transit agencies. He led Caltrans towards a new strategy emphasizing partnerships and community engagement for a cleaner, safer, equitable, and connected California transportation system.
Before Caltrans, Omishakin served as Deputy Commissioner with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), pioneering environmental and multimodal policies and programs.
