Paul J. Wiedefeld

Paul J. Wiedefeld, appointed Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) in 2023, possesses a distinguished 40-year career spanning both public and private transportation sectors. As MDOT Secretary, he oversees six critical agencies and chairs key commissions. Previously, Mr. Wiedefeld served as Vice President at HDR, an international architectural and engineering firm. He was also the General Manager/CEO of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) from 2015 to 2022, significantly enhancing the transit system. Prior to that role, he spent a decade as CEO of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, overseeing substantial expansion projects that cemented the airport’s status as a regional transportation hub.
